Doc Edge – Documentary Film Festival
Doc Edge is a not-for-profit national organisation specialising in bringing the best of the world’s documentary films to New Zealand audiences. The organisation also promotes learning and pathways for young documentary filmmakers, helping them understand the business of filmmaking and get onto the national and international film festival circuit. Celebrating their 20th Anniversary in 2025, the Doc Edge Festival and its organisers are well-established in NZ and internationally in the documentary filmmaking industry. Doc Edge’s patrons include Helen Clark, and its ambassadors are Judy Bailey and Neil Waka.
Going beyond a typical sponsorship and branding exercise, the partnership with Kōawa Studios includes a range of industry workshops, events, and screenings on-site at Kōawa Studios, lectures and work-experience opportunities for our students, as well as collaboration on a secondary school outreach program - encouraging young filmmakers to tell real stories and to study here at the University of Canterbury.
